Its the first Monday of January, and that means its new announcements from Corgi time. We’ll skip over the assorted buses and aircraft and concentrate on the Vanguards range as thats where the real meat of the range lies, for us at least.
Now for the last couple of years we’ve complained about a lack of new castings from Corgi. Hornby – Corgi’s parent company – have had their struggles fairly well publicised over the last year or two but with new management and seemingly fresh enthusiasm it seemed like there might be reasons to be optimistic for 2020. So is there? Yes, we think there is.
There is, as you would really expect a good selection of classic Fords with a number of new variants of existing castings but as the classic Ford scene is such a huge one, that’s no bad thing as they will undoubtedly prove popular. Joining the Ford range is a new, Mk4 Escort. And whilst we’ve seen models of other Mk4 Escorts from other manufacturers previously, they were generally low run, premium priced models so a new Mk4 Escort with a lower price and wider appeal has to prove popular. There’s also new castings in the form of a Volkswagen T2 Bus which whilst by no means unique in the diecast world does at least – and particularly in its ‘rat look’ versions look promising.
This schedule covers all of 2020 with the newer castings not due to debut until later in the year, so for the time being, expect and enjoy!
