Corgi New Announcements - July - December 2017

This morning we are pleased to be able to bring you details of Corgi’s new announcements and release schedule for the latter half of 2017 (so thats July – December then). And despite the parent company Hornby’s well publicised difficulties over the last few years, Corgi is still a big deal in the UK diecast model scene. So what have we found out then? Well, we’ll get the bad news out of the way first up – there are no new castings but what we are getting looks like, in the whole, a pretty good range with some nice models due for the rest of the year. We’ve been asking over you on facebook what you wanted to see and the overwhelming answer was ‘new models’ so the lack of new castings is perhaps a bit disappointing although given the aforementioned issues, somewhat understandable.
But, this week LobsterDiecast had a chat with a couple of guys from Corgi and they are on the right track. There are new castings in the pipeline although production schedules mean that they are currently working on 2018 and 2019’s releases and those new models are likely to be the sort of thing that collectors have been asking for – Corgi seem to know what will (and crucially won’t) be popular and at the same time have retired a few of the less popular ones (so farewell Vanguards Lotus Esprit and Mk2 Astra then…) and understand that the selection of models they currently offer in the Vanguards range just needs to evolve and that a careful and considered selection of popular British and European road cars of the ’70s and ’80s is what collectors (ahem, and retailers) are wanting.

So whilst 2017s release schedule perhaps won’t set the world alight it does feature some very nice models which will and should prove to be very popular. And if this allows the company to invest in new tooling to expand and evolve the range then we’ll be pretty happy with that. So here, in full is the Vanguards release schedule for the rest of 2017;

Volkswagen Beetle Type 1 Export Saloon in Blue – Due October
Land Rover Series 1 80″ RAC Road Service – Due October
Ford Escort Mk3 XR3 in Yellow – Due October
