NEC Classic Motor Show 2018

Held over the weekend of Remembrance Sunday, our final show was perhaps fortunately given the somewhat lively weather outside, held at the NEC in Birmingham. It was, of course, the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show with Discovery (which must also be the longest show title we’ve come across too) and more commonly referred to in classic car circles as just ‘the NEC’.

For 2018 the show expanded into an additional hall allowing a greater number of club stands and display cars and making it even more difficult to take in the enormity of what is a very, very large show. And fortunately it’s not a case of quantity over quality as there is an utterly staggering range and selection of cars on display. Add to that a huge number of classic car dealers offering something for almost every taste and wallet though whilst the cars are of a very high quality you probably won’t find many bargains though you can pass a happy hour or two spending a fantasy few hundred thousand pounds on a dream garage…

If that’s not enough then there’s the Classic Trader Village (and that’s where you’d have found us) featuring a range of specialists offering everything you could possibly need – or perhaps didn’t know you actually needed – plus an Autojumble where you can rummage through boxes of parts, tools and all sorts of other things in search of a bargain or long since obsolete part.

As ever it was a fantastic show and one of the highlights for us is always meeting customers and friends old and new, putting faces to twitter user names and enjoying the atmosphere of the show.

So next year then? Yep, we’ll be back for 2019 and if you haven’t been before then we’d highly recommend making 2019 the year you do go. It has to be said that it’s not a cheap show to get in to with tickets in the region of £30 though we’d argue that given the vast amount to see and do it actually offers pretty good value although the NEC visitor parking charge of £16 is somewhat on the far side of ridiculous. But don’t let that put you off as it’s a fantastic show with fantastic cars, great people and enough to give any classic car enthusiast a great day out.

See you there next year then!
