Well here we are, towards the end of the year and reflecting back on what happened in 2017. And 2017 was a pretty good year for LobsterDiecast even if it did seem to pass by incredibly quickly.
We didn’t make a big deal of it but 2017 was our tenth birthday. Not in any way related but during the last few months we’ve moved to bigger and better new premises which allows us to expand what we do and will mean that we can hold larger stocks and also allows us the space to expand what we offer in some ranges and to introduce new ranges during 2018.
Of the ranges we already stock, we’ve seen some fantastic new arrivals. Norev’s 1:43 range has produced some superb new models with both new castings and new variants of existing releases being massively popular. The 1:18 range also came back with a vengeance and has been one of 2017s most popular lines. Oxford Diecast’s releases continued unabated with their 1:76 range offering a vast selection from modern road cars to traditional classics whilst the last few months have seen some fantastic new models arrive in stock from IXO both under their own brand and also through their Premium-X range.
Whitebox continued to bring us regular 1:43 releases and Cult Scale Models 1:18 range was superb even if deliveries releases tended to only have a vague relationship with when they were supposed to arrive. But they were well worth the wait when they did come! 2017 for Corgi seemed to be something of a transitional year. No new castings which drew criticism from some but 2017s releases still proved popular all the same. With this year having seen significant changes at the top of Corgi’s parent company, Hornby, we wonder what effect – if any – this might have on their 2018 offerings.
Our show season seemed to pass by in something of a blur. Albeit a pretty good blur. Show season started at Stanford Hall VW in Leicestershire (as indeed it does once again in 2018) and was followed by Motors By The Moat, the always superb VW Festival and the NEC Classic Motorshow to name just a few. We’re currently working on 2018’s show plan and whilst there are a few changes it looks pretty good so far!
Earlier in the first half of the year, David spoke to Motoring Podcast about what makes LobsterDiecast, LobsterDiecast. About cars, Hotwheels and everything that goes on in our corner of the motoring universe. If you haven’t heard it then you can check it out here or download via iTunes which should give you a way of passing an hour or so over the Christmas break!
In the meantime, we’d like to thank all our customers, friends and supporters and wish you a very Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for 2018. As we enter LobsterDiecast’s second decade (eeek!) we’re really optimistic about the year ahead – theres some exciting new products on the horizon and interesting shows about too and we look forward to fulfilling your diecast requirements and enhancing your collections in the future!
