We’ve been reading all the many and varied words that various ecommerce businesses and an assortment of experts have to say about postage and we thought it was time to tell you what we do and why.

Some people believe that all postage should be ‘free’ and that customers greatly prefer ‘free’ postage. If postage was in fact ‘free’ then that would undoubtedly be true but like everything in life postage does cost money. So here’s why we do it the way we do and why we think it’s better for YOU!

If we offer ‘free’ postage then obviously the postage isn’t free at all but a set amount is contained within the price of the item you buy to cover the postage cost. If you buy one item then that’s fine but if you buy several (as indeed the majority of customers here do) then you’re vastly better off without free postage as you end up paying this postage charge several times over and we don’t really think that’s fair.

The item price is just that and every item in store has a postage amount allocated to it. If you want to know what your postage will cost (UK postage is normally from £3.50 to £4.95) then we have a handy Postage Calculator you can use once you add your item/s to your basket so you don’t need to wait to almost complete checkout before finding out the total. We think that is a fairer way to operate. Unless you are ordering a large amount (and if you are, thank-you!) then you won’t normally pay more than £4.95 for Royal Mail First Class postage.

At LobsterDiecast we use Royal Mail for almost all our parcels. There are other couriers who might be cheaper but they generally take longer to deliver (most Royal Mail items are delivered next working day) and if you’re not in when a courier does try to deliver, do you really want to trail to some out of town industrial estate or go through the rigmarole of arranging redelivery? No, thought not.

So that’s why we charge for postage! But we do try our best to keep it as cheap, cost effective and transparent as possible without compromising on quality or service.
