Its that time of year already. We get to a lot of car shows throughout the year, but there is one that we look forward to more than any other. Sunday 8th August 2010 sees the Retro Rides gathering held at the Haynes Motor Museum in Somerset. Loads of pre 1990 retro cars, one of the best museums in the UK and a 1km race track. Whats not to like. We literally cannot wait.Have a look at www.retroridesgathering.com We'll see you there!

Route Bleue has landed

We are slowly in the process of adding products to the new site. Today we have added 'La Route Bleue' collection from Altaya. Originally only issued in France, we now have a stock of them here. The quality on all of them is superb, each diorama depicting a different scene. All the cars and figures are removeable from the diorama as well if you so wish. But it's not just that they are really nice models. They are also a bargain! RRP is £26.99 (and to be honest, they'd be worth that), so that we are selling them for £9.99 each means they are serious value. Be quick....

VW Festival 2010

Life moves fast in car show world. Last weekend was the awesome Retro Rides Gathering (didn't go? Go next year, it's a superb event) and no sooner have we got that done than we are getting ready for our next event!VW Festival held at Harewood House in Leeds looks like being a big one. With 10,000 visitors and a mix or the best of air and watercooled VW's this should be a great weekend. We'll have a massive selection of the best of VW models (and a few others as well of course) so we'll see you there!

Meanwhile, in eBay land....

We are working at getting our full product range loaded onto the website. But with over 1600 items that takes a bit of time and we are doing it as quickly as we can! In the meantime, if theres something you are looking for that isn't here, chances are it'll be in our eBay store. And if you can't find it in the eBay store, then send us an email - we might just be able to find it for you!

Wheres Lobster!

At every show we've done this year I have made sure I have taken my camera mainly so we can get a few photos for the site but also because we're enthusiasts too and its nice to have a wander around 'after hours' and see whats about. So for me, VW Festival was what might be referred to as an EPIC FAIL as I managed to remember the camera but not the battery, which spent a pleasant Sunday on charge in our office....So it was a source of some pleasure to get an email from the VW Festival people with a link to photos from the weekend. You can have a look on the link below. Included in the photos was a selection of aeriel shots which enabled us to spend a good few minutes trying to find ourselves in a 'Wheres Wally' style. If you are really bored, check out the linked image below and see if you can see us - white van, blue stand in front of it and roughly in the middle. Like I said, only if you're bored....

Size matters...

One of the things we are asked most often goes along the lines of "So how big is a 1:43 scale model". So with that in mind we thought it might be worth writing a short piece on scales and sizes. So here goes...
In general there are four main scales of models we sell; 1/76, 1/43, 1/24 and 1/18. Its impossible for us to list the exact length of every model, but as a general idea this is how it works.1/76. Normally about 5cm and the most common scale model for use on '00' scale model railways.1/43. This is the standard international collectors scale for models and is our most popular. Typical length is 10cm.1/24. Approx 18cm.1/18. Normally around 23cm in length and again a very popular scale for collectors.

2011 Shows & Events UPDATED 12/10

We know it's still very much 2010. But things move fast and you've got to plan ahead haven't you. So with that in mind, how about a run down of where we are planning to get to in 2011.13 March 2011 - Ultimate Dubs, Telford.15 May 2011 - All Types VW Show, Bodelwyddan Castle, North Wales.2 & 3 July 2011 - VBOA, Billing Aquadrome14 August 2011 - VW Festival, Leeds.21 August 2011- Retro Rides Gathering, Prescott Hill Climb, Gloucestershire. There will be more and we'll add them once we have a better idea of what and where. If you'd like to suggest an event, please get in touch!

Special Purchase Bargains -

You'll have noticed our Special Purchase Bargains category on our homepage hopefully, so we thought it might be worth explaining what it contains! Many of the models in this department are ex 'part work' collections - that is to say that they were originally sold as part of a magazine series normally originating in France, Spain or Italy. Mostly these models are made by the mainstream manufacturers but don't have any manufacturer branding and are normally packaged in a plastic case which would have been attached to the magazine in the country of issue. We currently have a very wide selection of these, both here and in our eBay store.Being that they are often variants on models produced as part of a manufacturers normal range the quality is superb and the great advantage is the price - they are always significantly below the price for a comparable model taken from the manufacturers normal collection. Because on some of these models we are the exclusive supplier in the UK, we are able to offer them at bargain prices as well! Most of these collections are part of a series based around a theme. We currently have a range of Italian Police cars which features classic Italian cars in Polizia and Carabinieri livery, the Route Bleue series each of which is a classic French car with a diorama based on a scene from the French Route Nationale 7 which runs from Paris to teh Cote D'Azur, the Michelin series which features a number of classic commercials in the tyre companies livery, a series of Renault 4 models from the 'Mythique R4' collection as well as numerous Alfas, Lancias, Simcas and more besides...There are more on their way as well, the next week or so will see a range of classic Le Mans 24hr cars including one that we are very excited about! Watch this space for more details....

25 Years? Great scott!

Hard to imagine that its now 25 years since Back To The Future was first released. And yet it is indeed just that. Even stranger is the fact that BTTF Part 2 was set in a distant, far off future - that of 2015. And thats only five years away so unless the writers just guessed what the future might hold and got it hopelessly wrong, we've got a lot of new stuff to get to in the next half decade. As yet, I'm still waiting for flying taxis especially ones based on Citroen DS's or hoverboards to become popular in the LobsterDiecast neighbourhood. What with this week being the 25th anniversary of the date the film was set - BTTF Part 1 was set on October 26th 1985, and with cinemas across the UK screening the trilogy we thought we might have a look at whats out there in diecast for BTTF fans.Pleasingly, and probably because manufacturers anticipated the demand, theres quite a lot with DeLoreans to suit all budgets. Top of the range is the Sun Star 1/18 scale models. These are to the usual very high standard that we have all come to expect from Sun Star and tend to sell out quickly. Slightly smaller is the Welly 1/24 scale models. Welly have nicely captured the detail of the time machine from all three films whilst managing to keep RRP down to a bargain price. Lastly, and offering the greatest choice of all, is the Vitesse range. Each car is depicted in a number of differeings styles - in flight, mounted on railroad or just sat on its wheels. Detail is superb as with all Vitesse models and they have proven to be very popular.
The Welly models are currently available right here at LobsterDiecast.co.uk with the others being located in our eBay store.

2011 Shows and Events - UPDATE!

As we move relentlessly towards the end of another year, we continue thinking about where we'll be at in terms of shows for next year. The definitive list is probably still some way off (organisers not always publishing details until a few months beforehand sometimes), but so far, this is what we'll be at next year.13 March 2011 - Ultimate Dubs, Telford.15 May 2011 - All Types VW Show, Bodelwyddan Castle, North Wales.28 & 29 May 2011 - La Vie En Bleu - Prescott Hill Climb, Gloucestershire (tbc)11 & 12 June 2011 - Bristol Volksfest - Bristol (tbc)2 & 3 July 2011 - VBOA, Billing Aquadrome14 August 2011 - VW Festival, Leeds.21 August 2011- Retro Rides Gathering, Prescott Hill Climb, Gloucestershire. We are still working on a few more and we'll bring you more information on these nearer the time, both here and on our Facebook page.
